My father helped me start hunting when I was around 9 with a pellet rifle and I have loved the outdoors ever since. After serving with the Air Force in Thailand in 1973 my wife and I moved to Austin TX. I had taken so many deer with my rifle by the mid 80's that I put the rifle aside and mostly hunt with bow. I have made a couple of trips to Colorado for Elk, but still have never bagged one. I also helped form the first Christian Bass club in Austin TX. My wife and I currently serve as missionaries among Islamic groups in the extreme north of Ghana W. Africa. I have a foundation called Sportsmen Touching Africa Foundation to assist with the work we do in Africa. We build huts for national missionaries out of plastic bags. (my wallpaper is one of our huts with my kids standing in front) I love to hunt and fish when in America. Blessings To All, Danny

Hello Danny. No, I have not used any type of decoys for dove. We normally hunt the Arkansas vally along the river and our shooting is more than plentiful. We have had days in Lamar CO that rival those Argentina hunts you see on TV where those guys hunt unlimited numbers of birds and return to the lodge with sore shoulders. They get so thick down there that we have limited out 4 shooters in 20 minutes--our best standing record (it made for a long day at the bar). Very rarely do we even have to work for the birds; usually we pass shoot right off the tailgate of the truck with a little Hank Jr. playin and some barley refreshments at hand. Don't get me wrong, when I have my nephews, hunting dove is a lot different than when I am with my partners. With them, we camo up; we do work the cottonwoods; we pass shoot off a corner field the way I was taught, and we warm up before the hunt with some clays to get the boys on. Thinking about it, I cannot recall a time when we didn't limit out on dove. I have seen guys risk life and limb to climb 20 foot cottonwoods and place decoys it and thought no dove is worth that.

Just wanted to say that I hope the young GUY next to you understands how wonderful it is to be an avid hunter. My DAD passed at 51 and I didn't really know him. He wasn't a sportsman just my DAD. I just wanted to say to that young man that those memories you have are priceless. Keep hunting and fishing remember all those lessons (you didn't know you were getting) Hope you both have an excellent hunting sea son.

Danny, I have not yet had the opportunity to hunt North TX but I hope that once I am out of college and have a steady income that I will be able to hunt more places and different types of wildlife as well. It looks like you have had some excellent opportunities to travel the globe and hunt many species and I enjoyed looking at your pics. I wish you luck and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosporous deer season. TX_TrophyHunter

Danny, I've always wanted to hunt pheasants in the Dakotas. It's a serious drive from KC. It'd be a long weekend, but I wouldn't rule it out. Keep me in mind. Good Luck in your travels, Bob
